Comedian supreme sings “country winners”. Well, not so much sings as narrates. But it totally works in the same vein as Red Sovine or other classic country “story tellers”. Hamburger’s comedy is famous for being “unfunny”, or at least highly offensive and definitely self-deprecating. This works perfectly because C&W often has dark, “crying in your beer” themes, and Hamburger’s style fits well. Truth is he’s quite the hipster and has been toying with music on his recent CDs with the likes of former Meat Puppets, etc. This one features great players (including Prairie Prince on drums!) and was recorded by Tim Green here in SF. All songs are grrr-reat! At least try track 4 (“Jugtown”!!). Note: the title implies that he’s singing “classics”, but the truth is that he writes these songs. Its pretty obvious when you hear them, that this isn’t Nashville.

1) self referencing/deprecating upbeat “his only pay is a three piece chicken dinner”
2)slow sad, about things you cant recycle, picks up, “a divorce”
3) sad swing, dark, about death and stuff, and a crying clown, female vocals, pretty
4) upbeat, about being grateful for having an alcoholic dad
5) snare drum military beat like an old 50’s song, ridiculous spoof of
“loss” and hating the Government
6) upbeat, irreverent, about people getting screwed basically
7) slow triplet, theme of being left by your wife…then committing suicide, then blowing that off too…oh man, this is GOOD
8) slower “sad” theme, complaining once again about his disposition, nice Buckaroo guitar
9) upbeat, happy Grand Ole Opry feel, reprises his “zipper lips” bits
10) slow country blues, talks about being in Hawaii and just staying in the hotel room, complaining as usual
