Free jazz trio, improvised work that's usually high-energy and does sound tangibly jazzy. Gets tangly and furious.
Futterman favors a big piano attack, a cross between Cecil Taylor madness and that McCoy Tyner grand-ocean-waves sound of the '60s. He'll switch to saxophone sometimes for some nice sparring with Ike Levin, who puts up a good free-jazz front himself.
Another nice long session (it sounds like one long piece, split into tracks for programming convenience) from some guys who've been playing together a long time.
1- 15 seconds of talking, then dives straight into some fast, hard work.
2- Drum patter, into interesting two-sax work
3- BIG piano enters. Later, a cool splattery piano solo
4- Slower, nearly romantic. Quiet, tender.
5- Still slow, with a very 'nice' piano & bass clarinet part. Builds up intensity.
6- Wailing sax + bass clarinet. Some bluesy tones at the start.
7- Coltrane-like, towering feel, into a raging tumult. Ends soft and nice
8- Thoughtful drum solo. Slow, warbling saxes.
9- Slow ocean-waves feel. Gets into a fast but low-level flow, deft and purposeful but not too wild
10- Some thundring bombast. Ends on a compelling, tense chord repeated on the piano
