Yup, whale sounds mixed with experimental sparse avante jazz bass-clarinet heavy music. Needless to say the whales sound altogether flatulent and moaning, high pitched squeals and low end bubbling, so the whole thing is pretty weird. Environmental sounds, especially (“save the”) whales tend to bring to mind new age’y pap, massage music, or worse. So this stuff works because it mostly avoids that. Trippy and cool, compiled from field recordings of a wide variety of species across the world.

1) kinda new agey and ambient
2) scronky clarinet reminds me of Clock DVA
3) slow and dark clarinet melodies
4) a cool pulsing tribal rhythm, whale sounds aren’t so much in the front
5-6) really sparse, weird, could be mixed in with some drone or spoken word
7) interesting guitar/percussive (?) tones
8) high pitched bows and squeals, pretty violin
9) very “field” feeling
10) rhythmic, a cool tape loop feel creates a good beat
11) nice solo clarinet work
12) lyrics: male vocals “the world’s last whale”, dark and brooding and slightly smokey smarmy
