Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2008-11-16
Recorded 1977-81 in various dives in Toronto a garagey punk band does Velvet Underground covers that rock and stand alone in their own right. Doesn’t come across as a “tribute” or a “cover” album, it just comes across fresh and yummy (despite being 30 years old, the music 40). If anything it highlights the timeless “punk” ethos that the VU embodied, years before the Pistols or Black Flag. Highly recommended.

1) waiting for my man, simple driving, captures the proto-punk that the VU was
2) splendid swaying lovely narcotic dancing beat, wow! Proto indie-rock fer ya
3) trippy cover of Here She Comes Now
4) has studio and live sounds in intro, then pounds out a punky noisy upbeat ditty, I can see them pogo’ing right now
5) I’ll be Your Mirror, sounds good sung by a male instead of Nico
6) fuzzy and driving rock, off-key garagey vocals
7) ballady, slow
8) long intro with crowd yelling (fccs?), may as well fast forward 1 minute, a pleasant swaying jangly song follows
9) low fi recording for sure, noisey, noise guitar
10) truly great head nodding rocking version of Sister Ray
