Nudge It Up A Notch

Steve Cropper & Felix Cavaliere "Nudge It Up A Notch" – Modern soul with a taste from their 60s roots. Steve Cropper (of Booker T & the MGs fame) and Felix Cavaliere (of The Young Rascals or simply The Rascals fame) have collaborated to write an entire album of new songs. You can definitely hear the influences of their previous bands, but the sound is much more in the modern soul camp. The guitar playing and soulful vocals are quite good. The organ is nice as well, but there are also a lot of keyboards masquerading as other instruments (like horns and such). On the whole it’s fun and easy to listen to. Fcc clean.

1) Soild uptempo groover. Blues feel with a touch of Booker T and the MGs organ. Fun song with catchy lyrics.
2) Smooth soulful organ and guitars. Midtempo ballad. Nice guitar solo.
3) Slower dragging midtempo that picks up to a solid midtempo for the chorus. Blues feel mixed in with modern soul sound.
4) Solid midtempo swagger. Harder blues/soul sound. Tough guitar lick. Instrumental.
5) Bluesy cha-cha. Uptempo and fun.
6) Light modern soul feel. Fast midtempo.
7) Uptempo rock-pop-soul song. Catchy lyrics.
8) Solid midtempo walk. Tough guitar and what sounds like keyboards taking the place of horns. Instrumental.
9) Solid steady drum machine beat with rapping. This feels very 80s with trying to mix blues/soul and hip-hop.
10) Light fun and bouncy. Keyboards sound a bit like a steel drum giving it that “island” feel. Instrumental.
11) Lowdown modern soul. Solid midtempo. Chorus lightens up.
12) Uptempo bouncy and fun. Instrumental.
