Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2008-12-22
Familiar name, admit I know little about him but he sounds like an old school member of the Velvet Underground/Big Star blues tinged simple rootsy singer songwriter rock. Johnny Thunders, Keith Richards, anything drenched in spilled whiskey and beer. Don’t get me wrong, this is a bit tamer than your average rootsy garage nihilist band you’ll experience at Thee Parkside on an average Saturday night. More along the lines of a Tom Petty or George Thorogood in that respect. “Bar Band” is appropriate. But its great nonetheless.

1) rootsy upbeat Americana, minor keyed, good
2) upbeat, with drug references that don’t really mix with the music (the music could be a happy love song)
3) Ahh crap, a GREAT SONG BUT
FCC (slower and a bit more heroin feeling here, beautiful, edit out the easy “why did you fuck him?” right at 2:12 remaining)
4) kinda smacking of Tom Petty at this point… next track please
5) basic rootsy upbeat rock
6) slide blues guitar and smarmy, fun about crazy girls, story of my life
7) upbeat bouncy, drunk girls dancing
8) basic blues rock with slight country backbeat
9) a fun “louie louie” beat and happy feel to this 10) slidey blues guitar intro, then a sorta generic feel beat
11) slide guitar goes right into a George Thoroughgood 12 bar rocker
12) basic bar rocker
13) ballady, about heart break, cant imagine this going over well in a drunken bar, but it speaks to those of us recently dumped, divorced
14) “if this is can I get my money back, can I see the man in charge?”, with a theme like that the song cant go wrong, great song about breaking up, play it!!!
15) rocking with lots of slide guitar leads, getting a bit southern fried and swampy
16) live recording: lower fi, captures the bar band feel, 12 bar rockin
17) kicks into gear with a “train” beat then just rocks out continuing the train/Mark Twain reference
18) simple live blues bar band
19) happier feel rootsy, open chorded guitar, with the happy D chord/pinky trick
