King Khan & the Shrines – The Supreme Genius of…

Gnarly garage rock from Germany that puts the “psycho” back in “psychedelic”. All the great sound of a proper 60’s 4-man rave-up outfit (complete with mostly screamed vocals), but with the added creamy goodness of a fine horn section. Very, very happiness-inducing. Play everything, and play it often. It’ll cure your pimples if you got em, and give you pimples if you don’t.
No FCCs detected, I like 4, 7, 11, 13, 14 – but everything rocks!
1. **fuzzy midtempo frug-a-go-go, with lovely chorus of “tortuuuuuure”…
2. **slightly downtempo soul strut about a fat and ugly girlfriend. Heartwarming!
3. **hard garage rock stomp w/ tamborine & perfect keyboard.
4. ****uptempo total rave up – wild! This’ll get you up and ready for anything.
5. **slow blues with organ and vocals apparently recorded in a shower stall. Grab your bitch and slow dance REAL close.
6. **high speed psychedelia. Interesting premise…
7. ***downtempo mod swing.
8. *starts with a lot of bar noises, then uptempo rave-up. Almost too manic to hang together.
9. **slow bluesy, reverby lament about vampire love.
10. **tamborine-driven intro, builds into frantic rocker with lots of horns (and does it again
11. ****great uptempo funky strut with horns and farfisa.
12. ***mod rocker with a hint of bossanova and a groovy message for all today’s young people.
13. ****downtempo surf twist with so much reverb and whammy it’s almost completely fractured. Yay!
14. ****Hey! Who invited the Famous Flames? Uptempo soul/funk with killer horns. Maceo! Take it to the fridge!
15. **slinky, slightly downtempo bongos and bass and everything else that’s nice.
16. **uptempo garage punk, anthemic lyrics and fine bit of wah-wah.
