Alma Mahler Reviewed 2009-03-08 | ||
Schizophrenic electro pop. hyperactive electronic insanity. The dude behind this - Vice Cooler (also Xbxrx) - uses a kind of freestyle, spoken word singing style. This album has appearances by many indie and electronic musicians (see case cover). This stuff is in a similar vain as Cex, Peaches. FCC track 13. Try 11, 2, 6, 12, 10 1) Noisy choral-style spiritual intro – it’s a shorty (1:11) 2) * Screwy hip-pop. Chirpy chipmunk sample as chorus, aggressive spoken word vocals. 3) Faster pop beat. Ethereal female vox & chipmunk do chorus; “touch me,” repeated. Ends with a scream. 4) Nice hook in this one – comprised of crazy synth warblings & other bizarre electronics. 5) Reversed vocal samples, bells. An interlude (0:33) 6) * Less fucked up hip-hop pop. Cowbell! Catchy, playful hook. 7) The techno of insanity. Fast freestylin’ vocals. 8) * Funky-in-a-fucked-up-way jam. Less harsh than other tracks. 9) Heavy. Industrial tones, more drum machine. 10) * Stadium techno – bizarre love child of Jock Jams and Happy Hardcore. Ends abruptly. 11) ** The strongest synth work on the album. Check out the chorus, haha. 12) Soulful female vox, sparkly electronic interlude (0:34) 13) * (FCC: maybe shit? ~0:58) This one has a clearer pop structure. Hook is: “livin’ no rules.” |
