Split EP from indie bands Abouretum & Pontiak (both new signees to Thrill Jockey.) Aboretum has a stripped down, bluesy, folk-rock style that sounds a lot like Bonnie Prince Billy’s electric stuff (one of the guys apparently played in Bonnie Prince Billy’s band). Pontiak has a more produced / straight-ahead indie-rock sound. Four tracks total, each band contributes an original and a nice cover of a post Velvet Underground John Cale track.

*1)Mellow & slow folk-rock track, understated solo at end. This one is a cover of a track from the John Cale album Fear.
*2)Bluesy & low key, sounds a lot like early Bonnie Prince Billy, opens up at about 3:20 mark.
3)Reverbed out vocals over repeating guitar lick`
**4)Strangely oscillating vocal melody, bouncy rhythm (This one is from the John Cale album Slow Dazzle)

Also, if you haven’t heard them, the original John Cale versions are interesting, both tracks are from mid-70s albums he recorded with brian eno & phil manzenera.
