Spirited poppy, punk, lo-fi, with a slightly indie rock flair. Very D.I.Y. stuff from S.F. These guys dig up sounds ranging from the known (early) Replacements, Dino. Jr to the lesser known Cringer, Love Songs & the Pointed Sticks. In all a pretty fun record with lots of good playing and catchy tunes. This proves that you can still mix pop and punk without it sounding like some Top 40/Hot Topic swill.
SIDE 1
((((1)))) Poppy, mid-paced, great bass playing and quick strums.
(((((2))))) (FCC “shit” sung once) fast, very live sound, twangy but fast guitars,
((((3)))) (FCC “chickenshit” sung once) bursting out, garage practice/basement like pop punk ‘ala Love Songs or Cringer.
(((4))) Strummy and VERY direct in its poppiness but also very DIY/lo-fi sounding.
((((5)))) Steady, swingin’ tempo, loose and sloppy but in a good way.
((((6)))) Fast punk strums, shouted vocals that flows into…
((((7)))) Instrumental with a very Dino Jr.-like jam part with elongated ending & spoken section.
SIDE 2
(((((1))))) Fast strummin’, dual vocals here & there, totally early 90’s East Bay pop punk sounding mixed with J. Mascis’ guitar wailing. Awesome!
((((2)))) More fast, spirited, sloppy & fun stuff.
((((3))))) Raw pop-punk? Yep, that’s it! Silly and drunk soudning but totally hitting the mark. Great guitar sound, too.
((((4)))) Speed and to the point, “dedication” song.
(((((5))))) Raw, pop, indie-ish but totally ROCKIN’–epecially the guitars & bass.
