Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

Retrospective of disbanded local progenitors of carnival horror new-wave punk spastic rock, with interesting noisey remixes that cant be missed. Picking up where Christian Death left off these guys were really pushing something unique and new. While most “spooky” rock bands use the keyboard-overboard or do the full on surfy “monster mash” cliché these guys weren’t interested in that at all. Its kinda like they just so happened to end up this way, convergent evolution occurring on a distant continent. Cant speak highly enough of this band who graced our studios on Weds Night Live more than once. Earlier tracks are straight up studio then around track 11 remixes happen that take the band into the realm of twisted fucked up noise rock. 15-19 are good quality live recordings.

1) mid paced, not spastic but pretty level and accessible, would mix with anything
2) driving triplet rhythm brings out the dark carnival
3) good forward beat with thrashy choruses and good overall feel
4) driving start but goes halftime and slow and weird
5) driving and more spastic, just great
6) quiet intro to driving full on rocker
7) Instrumental: “girl on trapeze” brings out the full on traveling Carnival, eastern European polka rock feel, lotsa fun!
8) almost swingy swagger to the beat and feel but picks up and rocks into the end
9) heaviness with cool synth hook, head nodding
10) cool complex beat breaks this into a different and mindful feel, even creepier with effects, don’t miss
11) signature stuff for them, driving and intense
12) I really like this: strange intro then heavy production, huge treated drums and vocals, it’s a remix but that’s cool, big assed, the way I likes em
13) low fi music and bizarre mix, with strange samples/vocals, just plain fucked up
14) a heavily treated intro to band at some live in-studio performance that I don’t think is kzsu
15) live: triplet horror rock
16) Live: rocking driving
17) Live: upbeat and driving, cool
18) Live on KALX rockin, what else?
At 50 seconds remaining they do the stupid “ride finder” to kill this track at 50 secs remaining
19) Live: driving scary and intense and signature
