Album Review
Alma Mahler
Reviewed 2009-04-01
Strong indie folk/ pop with fem vocals, poetic lyrics. Mirah has a great voice – clear, powerful, fragile (Chan Marshall, Joanna Newsom come to mind). Her first album in 5 years. No FCCs. Try 2, 10, 1, 4, 8.

1) * Cinematic pop: violin crescendo, big background drums.
2) * Beautiful, understated. This one’s all about her voice & the guitar string squeaks.
3) Airy folk tune
4) * Gentle tune guided by harp, plucked acoustic guitar.
5) Sultry. Drum shuffle, castanets.
6) Grand, militant tones in electric guitar & horns. Harsher vocal delivery.
7) Jazzy. Vocals & hand drum with a sprinkling of chimes, horns, drumset.
8) * Stripped down vocals, electric guitar & a bit of keyboard.
9) Straightforward, but gathers strength & gets interesting toward the end.
10) * Positive lyrics, sounds like a clear sunny day. She does some Bjork-like things with her voice in this one.
