Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2009-05-08
For fans of the better stuff released under the moniker This Mortal Coil and the best of His Name Is Alive, even a dash of Currrent 93. Some of the most lovely music to come to kzsu in recent years, if ever. And if I am not mistaken, this label/these artists are from Oklahama, Kansas (?) ie. The much maligned “flyover” states proving that talent and creativity is often inspired best by the mundane. One of the best labels/cds to grace our doorstep ever. We are not worthy.

1) dark dramatic with strings and bows, female vocs come in late giving it a slightly celtic feel
2) kind of a strange percussive feel
3) a sampled distant voiceover a mellow chill sound bed, hypnotic
4) fantastic droney layers of female voices looped joined with instrumentation
5) bizarre low frequency plodding weirdness
6) simple guitar arpeggio with subtle near whispered introspective female spoken vocs, some somber cello/violin, very dramatic and beautiful
7) very textured and spooky, dense drama, multi-instrumental, classical/chamber yet goth enough to be hip
8) simple with lovely guitar playing and subtle strings. Female vocs, just enough reverb to make it dreamy
