Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2009-10-19
Low-fi sample/noise found-sound project with instrumentation, playful beats, melodies and tones. Old school production and overall feel, tearing a page from original Cabaret Voltaire, Clock DVA, Throbbing Gristle playbook. From our friends at Porter Records (yay!!!) who also cite Soft Machine, Terry Riley and Capt. Beefheart in the same breath. FCC clean.

1) upbeat dittie with drum machine and harmonica, strangeness
2) sparser, creepy, reeds smack of clock dva
3) slow with fun old Casio as rhythm, strange
4) bizarreness with that harmonica, lots of wrong stuff going on here
5) Kraftwerk feel for sure, chill headnoddingness, but more dissonant and… well… better!
6) cool treatise in echoplex and clarinet, beautiful
7) treated low-fi piano, sublime as it goes through an old flanger/phase, echo
8) chill, horns treated, near ambient gets creepy along the way, great stuff
9) long collage of tones, ambient and trippy at times, busy at others, great stuff
10) trippy and creepy and longish and perfect
11) very chill strange synth/theramin over pleasant piano… has the acid worn off yet?
