Sludge metal with a sort of ambient side. Music varies from slow and sludgy to epically heavy. Guitars and keyboards stand out prominently and the vocals vary from painfully screamed to sort of emoish. Fifth full length by this extremely influential outfit (just count how many bands have been tagged as neurisis-like in recent reviews). The style is a bit different here compared to their previous releases. It seems as if they have mellowed down a bit and have put more weight on the atmospheric/ambient rather than the heavy side of their music. The addition of keyboards makes them sound at times like (dare I say) Pink Floyd. Their “post-rock” side is also more pronounced. Overall a decent record, but I'd prefer their old stuff (Oceanic, Panopticon) any day. Play with Neurosis, Cult of Luna, etc.

Picks: 7,3 *** No FCCs ***

1. starts off as a typical neurisis-type doomy song, then gets all proggy and pink floyd style towards the end
2. starts all proggy with prominent keyboards (which remind ragnar of miami vice), interlaced with heavy chorus.
*3. a big swirlingly epic affair... definite oriental feeling here... gets heavier and heavier towards the end... check it out
4. title track is just a short piece of ambient experimentalism
5. sounds kinda post-rockish, even having a Godspeed sounding guitar section...
6. starts slow and sort of doomy (like Bauhaus?) then becomes this pseudo grandiose thing
**7. hell yeah, the intro guitar riff reminds me of good old Isis! yeah this track is good... the last five minutes are all Pink Floyd style (like Rick Wright's piano piece on Sheep, maybe...) hell, I kinda like it, what can I do?
