CD starts with bizarre Finnish interpretations of American blues and then delves into improvised avant jazz/prog, all instrumental and stripped down, guitar heavy. Like a cleaner more “sane” version of Bob Log/Doo Rag (sans vocs) at first, but all the more twisted and strange at the same time. As the CD progresses more instruments appear and tracks become more complex, avante jazz. This warrants a big “Huh?!?” from me, and a little “wtf?!?” Great label, Majmua (yes, zookeeper search them to create an awesome set of music). 1) strange blues, bass drum beat, dobro spazz strumming with clean into the board leads, etc 2) swingy with snare drum upbeat feel 3) vocalizations join in, near throat singing, adds to the fucked up ness 4) heavy pound beat appears, some high hat in drums 5) things take a turn here: experimental avante feel, kalimba 6) now the downtown jazzy improv begins: awesome heady spacey drums and guitar and subdued low end 7) improv with spastic violin/strings, meandering guitar and drums, cool stuff 8) less spastic, mellow dense improv 9) mellow, almost twangy with slide guitar, hypnotic 10) guitar centered, noodly 11) thumbing blues beat but just noodling improv, not so bluesy, bit of a Django flavor 12) prog jazz feel for sure, with reeds/brass, organ, twisted meanderings 13) upbeat jamming, guitar in front | ||
