Fantastic neo-folk, regular folk and a bit of “martial pop” & ambient sounds from Luxemborg (it’s in Europe, look it up). ROME is primarily the work of JeRome Reuter whose evocative voice is a bit of Leonard Cohen & Scott Walker. The lyrics are all dedicated/about the Spanish Civil War & the survivors. Very melancholic and often sullen albeit pretty sounding. (((((1)))) Ocean & violin, dialogue in Spanish (((((2))))) Slow acoustic intro with slow vocals over samples of Italian dialogue. Beats come in around 2 min. Abrupt ending. ((((((3)))))) Pretty ballad with samples of Italian voices in a train station. (((((4))))) Flowing flamenco styled guitars with dark & very nice vocals. Plus, samples in Spanish & German. ((((5)))) Ambient interlude with German voice (part translation: Without hate, Without a Flag No Duke! No Savior!” (((6))) Catchy but oddly Depeche Mode-gone acoustic sound. Not bad for what it is. ((((((7)))))) Nicely strummed acoustic guitars with the very smoky & Leonard Cohen-ish vocals with choral backing voices. Great stuff! (((((8))))) Dark ambient piece with slow voice in what sounds like Italian. (((((9))))) Melacholic, slow but very easy to follow neo-folk bliss. (((((10)))))) Sombre and very catchy. Operatic German backing and a fantastic chorus and random wartime German samples. (((11)))) Very mellow folkish pop. A little too mellow here though. (((((((12))))))) Marital backing and spoken, thought provoking lyrics |
