Ugly, heavy at times weird, Black Metal from these Finnish legends. Interesting to hear such clean production from them but Lyrically the usual bestial fare of misanthropy, satan & occultism. Beherit’s been at this since 1990 and continuing in the filthy (read: killer) tradition of Bathory, Sarcofago & Hellhammer. Great stuff that’s not too hard to get into – if yer not a wuss, that is.
((((1)))) (FCC “FUCKING” at 0:07-08/intro) Slow & bombastic then blasts your mind with an odd-metered mix of droning horns (keyboards/effects?) and back to the trudging Bathory-like pace.
((((((2))))))) FAST and raspy THRASHIN’ BM ripper. A lot of similarities to Bathory’s “Dies Irae” & even Metallica’s “Fight Fire With Fire”.
((((3)))) Bassy, speedy and very bare bones, 1st wave Black Metal sounding (again very Bathory influenced) with an odd “evil speed banjo” effect & silly but awesome chorus.
(((((4))))) Slow, melodic intro. Then mid-paced, rockin’ riffs with vocals made by undead templars of thee goat! Long outro with doom bells and howling winds.
(((((((5))))))) Doomy & amazing melodic, ritualistic intro then blasting, bassy BM with sputtering drums sung in Finnish. More doom ritual & fast tremolo riffage follows.
((((((6)))))) Opens with a riff on the thin line between DM & Black Metal. Near Perfect old-school Black Fuckin’ Metal. “Cemetary….Wiolence !” + backwards message = AWESOME!
(((((((7)))))))) Trippy, epic, psych doom riffs (like their classic “Gate of Nanna”) with growly but understandable vocals, ominous keyboards & flanger. In all, a very nicely paced tune.
