Ragnar of Ravensfjord Reviewed 2009-09-01 | ||
Big sounding punky power-pop from Mr. Reatard (Lost Sounds, The Reatards, Winter Coffin, et. al). The title’s self-explanatory – all singles he did in ’08. Dig this if you're into anything from Sparks to Cheap Trick to the Dickies. (((((1)))) Loud & infectious power pop with nice backing chorus. (((((2))))) Fast strummy guitars, nerdy punky vocals with poppy choruses. ((((3))) Acoustic and electric guitars with call & response vocals some cool drum & chord breaks, too. (((((4))))) 60’s psych intro with 70’s punk mixed with very addictive shouted out 80’s new wave-y/power pop choruses. Hellva chorus, too. (((5))) Pixies-ish rocker by way of a few Dino Jr. & Cheap Trick moments (that is the chorus is a rip of “Surrender”). ((((6)))) Lo-fi strum with handclaps and neat little new wave keyboard with mandolin (!?). Rather good female & male choruses, too. ((7)) Annoying chorus, sounds like a Cheap Trick goes new wave” reject. ((((8))))) More Pixies-ish, minimal power-pop with a funny but unforgettablely weird chorus of “rel-ax, rel-lax…my little victim…my little Hitler.” (((((9))))) Punky & loud, bombastic but still very catchy. Kinda Dickies-like but not as fast. ((((((10)))))) Fast “Bloodstains/Killed By Death” style punk with hints of keyboards & hard punctuated breaks. Short & to the point. ((11)) Mellow acoustic, slightly lo-fi with distorted vox. So-so at best. (((12))) More acoustic mellow-ness but a bit more character. Sounds like one of his electric tunes set to “sleepy time” tempo. (((13))) (FCC “Cunt” @ 1:07) 60’s-ish moog, acoustic/electric strummy pop with simple drumming. Dumb & creepy lyrics. |
