Con Law-The Generationals
Smart brit-pop smacking like a more organic version of The Flaming Lips’s poppier moments. It’s an old beast with a young bite. Borrowing heavily from old school pop that shuffles and clangs with reverb drenched gang vocals, Con Law does not pretend to be a new animal you’ve never seen. But its trumpets, hand claps, shouts, tambourines, organs, and ooing and ahhing sure bite a good savory chunk out of the 60s to place at our feet. Interestingly, in a lot of songs in the second half of the record, the drum kit and instrumentation completely changes, sounding a lot like early 80s pop. The crafty lyrics are goofy enough to make you smile yet clever enough to leave teeth marks when they play with us. The dual male vocal team, although typical, keeps you pretty jumpy. Throw this old dog a bone and I promise you’ll have plenty of fun. NO FCCs detected. Picks 4, 2, 7. DJ Doublestuf
1. bells, trumpets, shuffle and cool delay effects
2. **damn catchy, acoustic guitar jam reminiscent of a stripped down version of The Shins
3. gooffy lyrics, a summer by the pool pop track
4. ***dancy, disco, the bee gees are back and it’s good fun
5. electric organ chillfest
6. sounds like 80s pop. Extra produced vocals with something that sounds like a synthesized harmonica
7. *sounds like groove orientated new wave. Very cool
8. a haunting hybrid dittie
9. a john lennonish piano, organ jam with some trumpet thrown in
10. filler ender
