Tasty boy/girl harmony indie pop that sprints and jangles. Knock Knock is sort of a poppier version of Yo La Tengo. Very well crafted melodies with rich lyrics, catchy guitar hooks, and rhythms that are always thumping and building momentum. The album has a healthy mix of slower folksy acoustic songs and tight indie rockers that often dip into bouncy surfer rock territory. If you like Wilco, Talking Heads, Roxy Music or Fleetwood Mac play this CD!!! Play it otherwise because the gorgeous harmonies never seem to leave your head. The versatility of the male vocalist is impressive. His crooning and belting pull off such a cool rock swagger sometimes. In other moments his soft harmonizing leaves the spot light to other band members, but still steals it in a way. Does that make sense? The band has opened for !!! and Jackpot as they tour Northern Cal a lot. Knock Knock received a Sammie (Sacremento Area Music Award) recently, but I expect a lot more tasty things for this record. Picks 1, 6, 2, 7 FCC on 2
1. ***Short pop rocker with enough sugary guitar lines, hand claps, and catchy vocal hooks to have you boppin your head even after the song ends.
2. **Elegant harmonizing between the vocalists on this rocker. Shame she whispers “fuckers”.
3. The vocal energy tones down here but the light distorted guitar continues to hop around pretty well.
4. Relaxed. 60s pop “buuuwop buuwop” harmonizing
5. Focus on the female vocalist, really energetic, if I could have picked more tracks this would have been it! Great lyrics
6. **The full on rock energy returns in full form as you listen to catchy melodies set to lyrics about living it up before the world ends!
7. *Folksy indie pop with catchy acoustic guitars, sticky piano lines and fiery vocal harmonizing that in its subtle moments reminds you of Iron and Wine but then quickly becomes a different animal with affecting lyrics.
8. Gritty blues solo here towards the end. Love it.
9. Catchy punk energy yet not too distorted
10. Slow hang out tune that plods along with eerie background vocals
11. Whispery folk that sweats emotion. This starts out like a song a band would play in their live show to have the crowd hugging each other with lighters in the air, but then it surprises you when it speeds into a powerful bursting anthem only to recede back again.
12. Pop that hits so strong, it’s sugary sweet with a vengeance.
