Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2009-09-18
Slowed sample-art that comes across as chill noisey experimental that would do well in a haunted house or as a soundtrack to the animated version of Dj Brick’s latest delving into anaesthesia abuse. All tracks have a certain chill aspect, nothing superloud, and they all fall under the moniker “creepy”. Local geniuses Jared Blum (Beaks Plinth, Blanetship) and Dominic Cramp (Evangelista, Borful Tang, Qulfus) responsible for this, btw. For fans of Philip Jeck, early electronic music (i.e. tape manipulation), Throbbing Gristle, early Cabaret Voltaire.

1) quiet fad-in, spooky tones, mostly chill Halloweenie spookiness
2) again chill, bell-like tones, ebbs and flows
3) swirling tones, samples a bit more evident, layered
4) grows more intense, droney
5) analog synth tones, creepiness for sure
6) piano tones color this nicely
7) old tv sample sounding thing quickly devolves into creepiness, but a certain musicality and texture with guit-like tones makes this good, fades in obviously to next
8) a collection of tones that fall together in line, sparse sort of
9) 2:00 a distorto drone works well as a soundbed to some treated samples, definitely a heavier, noiser piece
10) dreamier, less nightmarish, a pretty balm
11) pretty, spacey, end sounds like being an airport terminal on acid
12) a pretty, brief thing, tones
