Album Review
Andy
Reviewed 2009-12-10
Dreamy, electric post-rock that draws equally from 80s guitar-rock and slowcore. They add to this some gorgeous, reverb-washed vocal harmonies and end up with a solidly defined sound that easily overcomes the novelty of their conception (all members are drummers for other Ohio bands, notably the Black Keys). All good, but my picks: 1, 4, 5, 7. FCC clean.
– Andy

1 - Slow organ intro shifts to driving number with classic rock synth riffs and sparse, effective vocals
2 - Mellow, lots of guitar.
3 - Spooky two-guitar verse pattern, darker modern rock at the end.
4 - Epic. Quiet, single-guitar riff, raging stretch with intense vocals, then down to ambient instrumental section, anthemic ending.
5 - Slow, sprawling; pretty, falsetto backing vocals on the chorus. Very autumnal.
6 - Energetic rock number with neat, bassy synth.
7 - Dark verses with almost folky choruses that sound like the Grateful Dead doing post-rock.
8 - Fast, minor-key prog number.
9 - Determined tune with simple verses, muddy choruses and instrumental stretch at the end.
10 - Strong, dynamic closer. Driving downbeat and expressive vocals.
