Mountain Goats/ The Life of the World to Come|
Indie melancholy folk/rock/lo-fi lyricist John Darnielle has released another poetic and beautiful album. The New Yorker Magazine referred to him as “America’s best non-hip-hop lyricist,” and I would have to agree. His lyrics are full of images and evoke very raw, personal emotions. This album is full of beautifully simplistic acoustic chords layered with lyrics that are art: clearly based off of the bible, his songs are about “hard lessons” that he learned from specific verses. Not an album that is of praise but more of life stories and contemplation. This album echoes simplicity of his early albums, and he still drives at the uncomfortable dissonance that makes this album truly unique: it’s why we listen.
Great Album! Similar to The Extra Glenns, Neutral Milk Hotel’s acoustic tracks, John Vanderslice, Okkervil River
