Heavy duty Rawk from Rockville, Connecticut without the obvious genre clichés or predictability. Previously this band had Jeff Caxide from Isis & Red Sparrows. Although, Randy Larsen-his replacement (from ’96-now) is no slouch. Big guitars and shouted but very directed, well-worn vocals. Plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting. All of this flows like a concept record about a lost soul named Jim. Somewhere in the neighborhood of Unsane, recent Kylesa, a very rabid version Clutch all crossed with the grit of a Upton Sinclair story. GREAT STUFF! (((((1)))))) Piano, bombastic, steady heavy rawk with a ton of loud low end. ((((((2)))))) Slightly twangy guitars, great use of stop-stars and vocal punctuation. (((((3))))) Noisy heavy rawk with a melodic chorus. Not unlike mid-period Unsane. ((((((((4))))))) Super-catchy & addictive but short. Should-be Classic Rawk. Hell yesssss! (((((5))))) (FCC “fucking” sung once) Fast & bombastic, great use of harmonics and Unsane/AmRep label styled chorus. (((((6))))) Worn down, steady, straight-up big melodic sound with plenty of modern tone/structure. (((((7))))) (FCC “shit” sung once, motherfucker said once) Trippy, straight-ahead poppy (!) rock oddly not unlike a better Alice In Chains. Second half is some cool spoken word by Mike Watt. Ends with noise. (((((8))))) Noise rawk 101, with screamy stop-starts then gets SUPER heavy around 2 min. (((((((9)))))) Fanastic & super catchy as fuck. Totally gives off the “unconquerable” tone. “Beer is cold, the whiskey’s cold. The sun is coming up/we are men-men of mountains”. (((((10))))) (FCC “Fucking” sung twice) Straight hard rock riff with pained vocals that oddly recall Mudhoney. Nice odd-meter and guitar tones. (((((11)))) Very catchy, bassy with near perfect vocal delievery. Lyrically conjuring images of “There Will Be Blood”. Even the autotune-ish bit is annoying but otherwise quite good. ((((((12))))) Danzig-ish then regular vocals, simple bombast & start-stops. Excellent stuff. (((((((13)))))) Well-worn semi-Southern vocals, big swaggery heavy rawk with great tone & drumming. Awesome chorus, too. |
