Andy Reviewed 2009-12-10 | ||
Loud dream-pop/shoegaze a la My Bloody Valentine, with an industrial twist and drawn out Brit-pop vocals. Good use of distortion walls and noise without getting in the way of the songs. My picks: 1, 5, 9. FCC: 4, 6 – Andy 1 - Fast and driving, with a guitar riff that could have come from a Kinski song; simple, pleading vocals 2 - Electronic drums, nicely jarring harmonic bell sounds; dark 3 - Contemplative, with big, ambient guitar and a simple, floor-tom drum part 4 - Occasional surf-rock guitar part, catchy vocals. FCC - "fuck" 5 - Cleaner, poppier; electronic drums again used effectively; dark, distinctive choruses 6 - Slow, droning fade-in; huge distortion walls; vocals like a depressed U2. FCC - "fuck" around 4:56, I think 7 - Verses sound like a distorted, darkened Smiths song; action bass riff and solo 8 - Lots of noise at beginning and end; cool exchanges between effected vocals and guitar on choruses 9 - Simple, unmuddy composition. Some very cool experimental sounds in background. 10 - Pop vocal structure over distortion jam. Finishes with long, super-distorted instrumental section. |
