Really cool record if you like folk and the 70’s. Recorded live at the Music Festival at the Isle of Wight in 1970, so the songs are interspersed with Cohen speaking to the crowd. Most tracks start with him speaking, so if you don’t like that you might have to forward the track between 5 and 10 seconds. FCC on 14, 16. Try 4, 5+6, 10, 13,
1. Cohen speaking to the crowd.
2. Interesting song, very nice beginning to a concert. Slow, passive song.
3. Cohen speaking
*4. Cohen classic. Beautiful rendition, hopeful lyrics and beautiful rich voice lead the song. The choristers in the back lend feeling to it.
*5.+6. Soulful song. Slower than the last, beautiful acoustic guitar.
7. Cohen reciting poem
8. Livelier than the last song, beat on the guitar, ends feeling like a church song.
9. Another poem and Cohen addresses the crowd.
*10. Beautiful, moving, slow ballad with chorus that gives it a religious twinge. Really sad song, though. End feels like something by Simon and Garfunkel.
11. Faster song with beat played on the guitar. Arpeggio goes over and over, so what gives feeling to the song is the voice.
12. Upbeat song, feels like country. Very needed after all the sad songs.
*13. Beautiful! Most emotional love song I’ve heard. More instrumentation than the rest of the record.
14. Another folk song, this one angrier, faster beat. FCC: “bitch”
15. Slow love ballad with lovely lyrics. Sleepy quality to it.
16. Nice song, but sings about masturbation. FCC “touch herself.”
17. Faster song, about revolt. Fast arpeggios on the guitar, barely audible. Strings in the back.
18. Sad, sad song about the relationship between two brothers. String orchestration in the back, which gives it a nice touch. However, ends with crowd clapping and another of his speeches, this one kind of troubling. Recommend fading out after the song ends
19. Another slow, lamenting folk song. Not the best on the record.
