31 Hardcore & Punk, power pop & related bands covering older BYO bands songs (or bands who had at least 1 song on BYO). Namely: 7 Seconds, SNFU, Battalion of Saints, Adolescents, Bad Religion, etc. Pretty good for what it is. This is also a soundtrack to a documentary on the label.
(((((1))))) Ace cover of the 7 Seconds anthemic HC classic.
(((2))) Good & tough Oi!/Street Punk (dunno the original) but this is Paddy from Dillinger Four’s recent band – so it gets points just for that.
(((3))) (FCC “bullshit” sung once) Slow, rock into fast typical NOFX poppy punk played a way more hardcore than usual tempo.
((((4)))) Catchy, very So. Cal punk (tho’ this original was done by Canadians). Lots of Danzig-y vocals & “whoa-whoa”s.
(((5))) (FCC “shits”) Pop-punk with emphasis on the pop – not bad. Way more Weezer-like than say, 7 Seconds.
((6)) Generic ass pop punk with Bad Religion-y vocals. This is the shit that clogged up “punk” in the 90s.
(((7))) Decent 70’s style poppy punk with a good chorus.
((((8)))) Classic U.S. Hardcore sound, dirty, raw & ready to tear your face off!
((((9)))) Another USHC classic, nice intro with echo and good guitar sound, crap drumming tho’.
(((10))) Big bass & chunky guitar sound, catchy chorus. Pretty good.
((11)) Rancid/later Social D., strummy “bar punk”.
(12) Horrible acoustic ballad into mall punk.
((13)) So-so, skinny tie rocker ballad.
((14)) Gravely voice singer with some very 80’s AOR rock mixed with vague pop-punk style. OK I ‘spose.
(((((15)))))) Excellent Pegboy cover – done up perfectly. Hell, extremely close to the original ‘cept more British sounding vocals.
((((16))))) (FCC “shit”) Another early US HC classic done up with nice bass & roughneck vocals.
((((17)))) Fast & speedy crucial HC sound (Canadian not US this time), lots of calls & response vocals. Tho’ sounds like their singing “Fore-head Policy”.
((((18))))) (FCC “fuck” 4x) Good modern US hardcore with some pretty nice vocals & a good guitar break. “Where’s the anger?” EXACTLY!
((19)) So-so, very early 80’s new-wavey punk with faux UK accents.
(20) They Might Be Giants go country. Puke!
(((21))) (FCC “shit” sung once) Poppy, Rancid-y 90’s punk, file in: “stuff the kids like that doesn’t completely suck”.
(((22))) Decent modern obnoxio-punk cover of the Canadian Subhumans. Might be an FCC for “Swallow my piss” and the chorus.
((23)) (FCC “fucking” sung once) Anthemic, like later Ramones but way more messy & confused sounding.
((((24)))) Nice & raw take on the sleazy glam punk tune from the legendary “Somebody’s Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In” compilation.
(((25))) TOO MANY FCCs–AVOID! Otherwise a fine tune.
((26)) Generic gutter punk with good guitars tone.
((((27))))) Mid-paced & very catchy hardcore. Good take on the first Bad Religion uh, “hit”.
(((28))) Pretty cool synth-rock by the main guy (and pal of Boyd Rice) from Alkaline Trio.
((29)) Bruce Springsteen/80’s beer commercial “punk”.
(((30))) Decent & catchy but lo-fi anthemic punk.
(((31))) (FCC “fucked up”) Acoustic, sarcastic folk-pop, not bad. Funny tho' since they're from Reno.
