Abstract scrapings and tappings made on the Skatchbox, a musical instrument that uses a thick cardboard box as its base. (The kind of box that a computer keyboard is shipped in.) Atop that, Tom Nunn puts metal and hard plastic structures that get "played" by combs or sticks. It's like rubbing a comb against the edge of a table. Sometimes it sounds like the chatter of little alien animals. Expect lots of quick, crunchy, percussive sounds accompanied by different instruments on each track. All improvised, quite abstract, with some really unusual sounds that would fit noise shows well. FCC clean. Skatchbox demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElrJisnhtSU Each track includes Nunn and David Michalak on skatchboxes, plus local friends listed in parentheses. 1- Scrapes and moans, fast and crazed. 2- Hyperactive scraping with some low female vocals, ghostly and moaning. (Aurora) 3- With computer electronics, and amplified skatchboxes: Shimmery sounds plus swampy, crunchy ones. (David Slusser on Slussomatic) 4- Strange low rumbling, metallic sounds. (Chris Brown, electronics; Toyoji Tomita, trombone) 5- Cool percussive tube sounds (baritone sax: Jon Raskin), good rhythm. 6- High-pitched gargling -- literal gargling. (Aurora). Fast but relatively calm/sparse, with traces of tunefulness 7- Viola. Big & stern, with raspy sounds behind it. (Leif Shakelford) 8- Perky, tuneful saxophone. Chattery skatch noises. (Jon Raskin) 9- Electronics: Growly sounds, helicopter clatter. Lurking. (Chirs Brown) 10- With vocals: Grunts, snickers, growls. (Aurora) 11- Meditative sax, swampy squiggles. Works really well. (Jon Raskin) 12- Active viola, a musical piece. (Leif Shakelford) 13- Electronic buzzes and chirps, goes well with the skatching. (David Slusser) 14- Shimmering gongs, wow. Mysterious air.
