Evans is a pianist/composer/arranger with a butter-smooth style and a sophisticated touch. Here he combines original tunes with a tribute to his friend and mentor, Bobby Watson. His trio is tight and fresh and it’s all nicely unpredictable but painted with a fluid line. Good stuff.

*1. Striding, midtempo plinky bop w/an odd syncopation.
2. Downtempo and gentle with a creamy, dreamy air. Lovely.
*3. Serious drumming highlights this midtempo bounce.
*4. Explosive energy, upbeat and fiery. Nice sense of improv,
5. A soft and reflective ballad w/a gentle touch from all.
6. Soft and slow solo piano. Reverent, lyrical, sad but lovely.
*7. Rhythm-shifting and tempo-teasing. Starts slow then wanders.
8. A slow and languid ballad. Quiet, fragile, but heartfelt.
*9. Polyrhythmic romp w/a highly improvised feel. Cool.
10. Starts slow gets into a midtempo groove. Tres hip.
