Lutan Fyah – The King’s Son Reviewed by Sadie O., 2/12/09 Roots Reggae with dancehall ranting vocals. Lutan Fyah is one of the top younger artists in Jamaica these days, and as such can get really first-rate musicians and production. He also has a distinctive ranting vocal style, and Rastafarian rants are always a treat. No slackness or FCCs detected. I like 3, 7, 10 and 12 best. 1. 3:33 **bouncy midtempo roots skank, love song. 2. 3:44 ***bit of blessing intro, upbeat dancehall bounce, Rastafarian rant. Nice bit of dub at the end. 3. 4:15 ****uptempo electronic dancehall, several voices. Fine sound. 4. 3:26 ***midtempo pretty skank with a bit of steel drum sound. Rant about Babylon. 5. 2:54 ***somewhat downtempo electronc bubble. 6. 3:39 ***midtempo bubble, prominent female chorus, pretty sound. 7. 3:17 ****uptempo, upbeat bubble with horns. 8. 3:56 ***big dramatic intro, somewhat downtempo skank. 9. 2:40 **subdued intro with preaching, downtempo nyahbinghi/unplugged riddim. 10. 2:56 ****midtempo roots skank – classic riddim, bits of original vocals and fine toast. 11. 3:41 **pretty midtempo skank, love song. 12. 3:16 ****uptempo bubble, several voices, nice. 13. 4:18 *commercial production, love song. |
