Gorgeous piano playing the tunes of good-natured Vince Guaraldi, best known for his Peanuts scores. This is a mix of lesser known compositions. All tracks good! Adapting the pianist’s categories to group the tracks.
Lyrical/impressionistic
1. Gentle, “Time for Love” is the title of the track and it fits
+3. Jazzy, mid slow, blue, wandering tune
6.Pretty and slow. Too pretty and slow for me! But then there’s this chord progression at middle and end that is just awesome.
8.slow pace. Decent but nothing grabs me
+13.stately, gives way to swaying 3/4 dance whose ending includes some prepared piano (hand-muted strings)
+14.slow, simple. hits the really high notes at end
15.mid-slow. Lyrical. And I want lyrics! Neil Diamond, preferably. Don’t hate on me for it.
16.slower stripped down yet more lilting take on 13. This one could use some Celine Dion singing. Where do these ideas come from?
Peanuts, often boogie-woogie influenced
+2. mid-fast, peppy
+4.Summery, a little slow in the start then wakes up at halfway point
9.mid-fast medly. 3/4 time alternating with 2/4? Peppy first half and even more rollicking 2nd half.
Latin tinged
10.Minor key, blue, good tempo
11.mid-fast. Bass is semitone modulation? Don’t know what to make of it.
+12.take an old friend to dance to this. Peppy, doesn’t come on strong.
Other
+5.”Soul-jazz minor key” like a lost track from Porgy & Bess
7.”Mainstream jazz-bebop” Fine piano lounge music, would love to have a martini while listening to it. Not so sure I like it dry.
