Red West Reviewed 2010-05-25 | ||
Indie pop and rock. Some songs quiet/folky, others loud rock. M&F vocals. They like to incorporate toy piano. San Fran band. 1.instrumental opener, long intro of a steady tap, musicbox & synthesized toy piano. Loping rhythm. Distant voices. Pleasant enough. +2.Wurlitzer, fuzz guitar, Yes-like M vocals. Minor key, mid-fast. +3.quiet toy-piano, guitar, backwards-sound opening, then ballad, 70’s rock style. Lots of high-pitched guitar harmonics. M voc w/lots of reverb at first, then F. Odd circus organ/toy piano interlude in middle 4.mid-tempo, minor key with synth violin. Angsty pop, F vocal +5.Ethereal, churchy opening. F vocal, then mid-fast drums, M backing vocals fill in the sound. Even a little trumpet. Sweet pop hate song. 6.Brief lullabye 7.mid-tempo space pop, cold F vocals, ironic M vocals. Music biz song 8.Acoustic guitar, “wee-ooo” synths, indistinct vocals interlude +9. Music box/toy piano, guitars, ¾ time, F “thru a telephone” vocal. 10.mid-fast, some falsetto vocals, cheesy synth, guitar 11.3/4 pipe organ, toy piano interlude/soundtrack, fades into next track 12.folk-pop, mid-fast, a little banjo, and vaguely Spanish. F vocals about a goth (or narcoleptic) kid 13.Church bells & synth organ, then goofy pop 14.slow ¾ time, acoustic guitar, toy piano, harmonium instrumental interlude. Fades to near-silence then into next track 15.peppy, minor key, F vocal lead, M backup +16. Nice build from intro, loping toys to jaunty pop w/echoing F, indistinct M vocals. Ends slower, loping like a donkey again |
