Brian Cutean (aka QTN), “Guitarred and Feathered” (Burnttoothbrush Records, 2010) Reviewed by Abu Ramses – ALL TRACKS FCC CLEAN

QTN is a typical Willamette Valley (OR) hippie. After 5 albums with him singing, this one is entirely wordless, solo acoustic guitar music. He says he “reached for… melody, rhythm, fun bass line, and silence.” All are mid-tempo. I hear influences of Dave Van Ronk. Lots of finger noise on the frets.

Try tracks 4, 7 (I like blues guitar)

Tracks
1. Tuned (To Her Piano) – nice arpeggios - 3:32
2. Theme from Handpainted School – swingy beat - 2:32
3. Scarenaclentae – the most unpredictable number on the CD - 4:45
4. Mississippi John n Taj – three-finger picking blues style - 3:57
5. Painting Shredded Wheat - punchy rhythm and bass - 3:29
6. Call Me a Cab – unexpected chord changes and sweet melody - 3:54
7. Plum Island - three-finger picking blues style - 4:40
8. Anodyne – the bass line is prominent on this one - 3:04
9. Rosepelly Mountain – slower, melodic, you can imagine a ballad - 6:39
10. Jet Sam – lots of twang in this one - 3:29
