THE MYNABIRDS -WHAT WE LOST IN THE FIRE
WE GAIN IN THE FLOOD.
(SADDLE CREEK)
as reviewed by mr. esq.
70's contempo/soul & 60's pop.
led by laura burhenn, the mynabirds revel in 60's&70's pop&soul. sometimes it gets country or bealtleesque.
the sound is very authentic. some songs sound like they could be lost gems from the 60's&70's.
burhenn is augmented by singer-songwriter/producer richard swift. and a ton of other noteable folks (check propaganda sheet, as there are too many to mention.)
they recorded this in rural oregon.
it's nice. familiar, but i'm just a sucker for her voice.
you know...that kind of voice.
(propaganda sheet is dead on for a change! =she does dead ring for chan marshall, neko case, dusty springfield.)
FCC CLEAN.
SUGGESTED TRACKS: 1, 2, 5, 7, 9
*1. sudden piano start. soft. vocals ala chan marshall. sweet, sweet stuff. very 70's contempo rock. it's great cheese. come: smell the cheese!
*2. real catchy. big drum sound. big change of pace from 1st cut. poppy. like yeah yeah yeah's.
3. dusty springfield, sonny&cher.
4. opening sounds like dark side of the moon. darker.
*5. BEST TRACK: velvety git. chan marshall vox=lovely.
6. nice, but gets too mor for me.
*7. beatlesque open, pounding pop.
8. country time! happy&uplifty
*9. sad begin to begin. waltz off into alterna pop/country.
10. 70's country. sappy, sappy cheese. i love her voice, but i want her to shut up now.
