MC Dizzy Jackson Reviewed 2010-08-30 | ||
Lots of energy here from The Legendary Shack Shakers with a good dose of blues, country, rock and a bit of pyschobilly / punk. Many influences like Tom Waits, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, T-Bone Burnett. Banjo, guitar, organ, heavy drums predominate. Some really good stuff here. No FCC’s. *My favorites*: 2, 4, 7, 10, 12. 1. (0:35) Jew’s harp, percussion, weirded-out noise intro. 2. *(3:14) Fast. Harder edged, heavy drum beat, whaling guitar, killer harmonica. 3. (1:58) Mid / Fast. Traditional song, most notably done by country-blues legend Dock Boggs. Country tune with banjo, driving drums. 4. *(2:36) Mid / Fast. Bluesy with harmonica, about a burning barn. 5. (2:31) Fast. Driving punk / psychobilly rocker. 6. (2:57) Mid / Fast. Bluegrass / country / blues song with nice banjo, high-hat, and spacey guitar. 7. *(2:57) Mid / Fast. Awesome blues harmonica, soaring number. 8. (2:04) Mid / Fast. Full force rocker, harmonica, a bit of Jon Spencer. 9. (4:05) Mid. Bluesy / bluegrass-ish with some Tom Waits influence. 10. *(1:55) Fast. Harder edged, Vocal manipulation, a hint of ‘Mexican Radio’. 11. (2:11) Mid. Banjo, spacey organ, yodeling. 12. *(3:19) Mid. Bluesy, nice banjo and a bit of a yodel. Full, fleshed out sound. 13. (2:43) Mid / Fast. Blues song about doing everything last night, like ‘talk some trash / drink some mash’. Great harmonica, guitar and keys. 14. (1:42) Fast. More psychobilly / country-punk. Spoken lyrics about the latest news. 15. (2:34) Slow / Mid. Piano-based song. Great song to end a set. 16. (0:43) More weirded-out noises with voices in the background. |
