UNIVOX-UNIVOX. (ROIR!...say 'roar!') as reviewed by mr. esq. indie/garage/britpunk/anzipunk/postpunk. (univox is very versatile. sounds like at least 3 diff bands.) a pretty good combo. there are a few bands i'm hearing, but i can't quite pin them -and i'm gonna kick myself tonight under the covers -'fuck!: that's who they sound like!' here's what i'm pinning (overall): kinks, bowie, roxy, japan, giant sand, boomtown rats, split endz, clean, chills, subway sect, godfathers, radio birdman, and a whole lotta mid-80's stuff. oh whatever/whoever=it was a pleasure. but... FCC WARNINGS: 4, 6, 7, 10, SUGGESTIONS: 1(esp.), 4, 6, 7, 8. *1. BEST TRACK: this fucking rocks! stooges/mc5/dmz/dogs -ooo! i think he said 'cunt' -ooo!: no he didn't. =driving garage punk. 2. okay, now i'm disappointed - i was looking frwd to garage punk michigan style-.but this is still pretty damn good. a croony anthem in a very 70's cheese, but very good cheese, way. 3. britty/irish 70's pop punk. almost new zealand punk. *4. FCC! : faded in from#3. -'FUCKING!'- the clean&split endz do battle against the rats&radiators. go new zealand! sud end. 5. come now, dude: your voice ain't that deep. okey, now i'[m pissed off w/this thing. *6. FCC!: 'SHIT' this is kick ass. roxy franz bowie kinky. gets ghosty then starts galloping. (can't pin the band i'm thinking of.) *7. FCC!: 'FUCK' very clean. a croony clean. arcade fire. *8. 2ND BEST: gregorian pop, monks chant-pretty funny story. you'll die laughing... 9. very nice: from 60's pop to 80's jangle. 'sounds like 'lay, lady lay.' 10. FCC: 'SHIT'. very 80's brit mod rock. stranglers. the it changes: wiry. motors. 11. new wave. vapors&lords of the new church. 12. surfy intro. damn! :who does this sound like? there's a jangle and a johnny rotten end. that kinda limey naselness looming in the background. | ||
