Mostly good, new tunes from the long running American goth/ethereal/neo-folk label. Lots of great stuff from Rome, Curtis Eller, Soriah and Lux Interna to name a few. |
((((1)))) Dark folk/sea shanty with a feeling not too far from Firewater or Nick Cave with a “baa-baa-bippa-baa” chorus.
(((2))) Bassy, moody “modern rock” not far from Psychedelic Furs. The chorus is really flat but oddly catchy.
(((3))) “Ethereal pop” by way of early 4AD sound mixed with The Cranes and some loud guitars. Thankfully, way more of the first two and no Nightwish bullshit.
(((((4)))))) Very nice mix of psych & neo-folk that just floats in the air.
(((5))) Sarcastic & somber pop tune. Decent but a times sounds like U2. S.F. has done WAY better.
(((((((6))))))) Some of the BEST neo-folk going now. Mellow but expressive vocals and cyclical guitar chords & sad violins.
(((7))) Electro-rock not too far from NIN, Depeche Mode. Not bad but needs more interesting vocals.
((((8))))) Bassy, sputtering beats, Siouxie clone on vocals (but nothing wrong with that), some cluttered sound with guitar and random noises. Too chaotic to do the spider dance to, I’d imagine.
((((9)))) Straight up Americana folk with really good dual vocals & banjo.
(((((((10)))))))) Really trippy ethereal & shamanic sounds with Ashelon’s multi-octave range – that goes from Tuva throat singer deep to high pitches to a scant whisper. I saw this duo at an art gallery in Oakland at 2am awhile back. Amazing stuff!
((((((11)))))) Very nice neo-folk duo with deep male vocals & occasional female vocals, mandolin, piano and a sample “im Deustch”. Reminds me of the later Swans material.
((((12))))) Basic, dark neo-folk. Simple chords, nice accordion, male & female duets. Easy to follow & latch your ears around.
