Once-shoegaze band out of Austin. They’re still pretty shoegaze, but with more riffs. That curious blend of post-punk and emo lite perhaps most clearly demonstrated by the likes of (cough cough) Interpol. Disaffected yet serious vox, jagged guitars, very thin and tinny production.

Apparently these guys used to be called The Swells, and they’ve been making music since the 90s. There are five of them (there used to be six) -- seven if you count their ex-bass player. Something bad happened to the bass player (death, I assume). This is the reason why the band changed their name to Seaholm Electric. Bands sometimes do this when they lose members. You may have heard of another such band. One that sounds nothing like this band, I’m sure.

no FCCs

*1. joy divisiony clangster rudder guitar. echo-back “are you are you” chorus. some synth looping and very tinny clash drums.
*2. hella BECK. dark, syncopated beepy beat. loopy minor electric riff. gets a little swirly. think: the go-betweens all get dumped and take out their rejecto aggression by djing ‘part time punks’ at the echo.
*3. ~9 sec gear-up. downbeat synthy bass riff and clangster guitar. ominous & noisy (cymbal-heavy) drums. some whiplash effects & blooping. sounds like darker franz ferdinand.
4. instantly familiar and comfortable. starts with drum kit noodling. midtempo, chill, airy, parallel move strummed-guitar-and-vox, heavy shoegaze chorus. fades a few seconds early.
5. easy punky guitar and classic-sounding roland jupiter synth. totally 80s. gravelly cowboy vox. echoey dreamy bridge, and then a warbly psych freak-out in the last minute. oddly enough, this could be an mgmt outtake.
