PARLOVR -PARLOVR
(DINE ALONE RECORDS)
as reviewed by mr. esq. (alex)
parlovr (they like to pronounce it like 'parlour'. clever, clever.)
is a montreal 3 piece featuring:
alex cooper: vocals, keys, guitars
louis jackson: vocals, guitars
jeremy MacCuish: drums, percussion.
from the postpunk lineage. it's gets bashy,
it gets poppy, drony. joy division, pixies,
interpol. =best thing i've reviewed so far
in my d.j. trainee underscum career.
i fell in love w/parlovr....we nearly eloped...goodbye kzsu.
=i'm gonna go BUY a copy!
(note: but maybe i'm prejudiced. propaganda
photo=one of the guys looks like john waters
-and he's holding a big, fluffy kitty! i love
big, fluffy kitties!)
FCC CLEAN. I SUGGEST (besides whole thing):
1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 11. (especially 1&3&11) &...
buried track...FCC WARNING='FUCK' IN BURIED TRACK! necrophilia?
*1. swarmy drone opening; keys come in;
loserman vocals-yes!; arcade fire and interpol;
steady pace, baby; don't end-please baby, please!
2. subdued, muted beginning. post punk pop;
pixieish, and kinda reminds me of the skids; off/odd middle section; cool noodle section; synthy.
*3. allright, we're back to pop! pixies vocals; sweet bash
&forth; duel vocals; getting haunty. leads into...
*4. subdued to building poppy. 5. jangle drone pop intro
to bash&forth. reminds me of nirvana in a way can't describe;
pixies vox; kick ass! *6. synth's gettin' ominous...vocals come
in all sweet, w/acoustic guitar, handclaps, whistling=great pop!
(did i say it was sad? it's sad.)
7. saddy. interpol in their more ludelike moments. love
the screaming! cool droneout. *8. here comes this motherfucker!:it's like interpol's comin' ta' kick yer ass at a boutique or somethin'! this is a great song song to dance to. guitars are machine gunnin'. *9. synthy start for some kids show for robot kids. melancholy guitars come in. dreamy. *10. the guitar kicks ass! *11. great, driving, dreamy =it's got it all! it's epic, baby! feel my art, baby! feel my art!
now it sounds like he's singing in a loft...he's lost her. aww.
...buried track...a total rave up. kinda reminds me of a song by shadowy men from a shadowy planet. total fun, kids-watch the wax!
