Miami-based Jesse Jones, Jr. plays the funk on Father of Scat Hop. It’s a blend of Parliament / Funkadelic / James Brown with a twist: Jones adds some scat singing to accompany the grooves. The emphasis here seems more on the music than on the scat singing and the tunes blur into one another, sounding all the same. It is some good stuff, however. No FCC’s.

*My favorites*: 4, 5, 8, 9.

1. (0:42) Intro for Scat Hop Daddy
2. (5:06) Mid. Easy going groove with upfront horn and a persistent “Get On Up” chant.
3. (741) Mid. Similar beat, groove and instrumentation to #2, but a bit looser with more scatting.
4. *(6:31) Mid / Fast. Latin influenced with some spacey organ and ethereal flutes.
5. *(7:09) Mid. Cool jam with rich layerings of organ, flute, sax and percussion. Lots of space.
6. (6:53) Mid / Fast. Lots of scat under and over a Latin-infused, smooth soul sound. A bit repetitious.
7. (8:30) Mid. Jammy grooving with several phrases of scat, mostly toward the end.
8. *(7:07) Mid / Fast. Organ, sax predominant with cool bass/vocal interlude at <2:00>.
9. *(5:48) Mid / Fast. Quick-paced sax, organ drive the scat and ‘Scat Hop Daddy’ chant. Killer guitar.
10. (6:37) Mid / Fast. Sax / scat intro. The scattiest song on the album.
