Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2010-06-27 | ||
Low fi cassette release: Bass, organ and vocals (one man living room thing?). Toiling Midgets meets Young Marble Giants inside a Tascam Porta 1/Yamaha MT1X. Dark near-gothy elements a early New Order, Joy Div. All songs meet the limitations of this format, low fi, little attention to perfect key. Pick any really. 1) upbeat, simple melodies, low-fi no drums, minor toned psyche bordering on spooky 2) early New Order’ish feel with a solemn yet happy feel, strained vocals 3) darker tone, off key bass underscored lowfi’ness 4) upbeat w/ drug refs and a good refrain, “death disco” 5) synth gets weirder, more desperate feel maybe 6) slower, “I want to sleep, I want to disappear” 7) Natasha Kinski ballad 8) upbeat bass, epic melodies in off-key 9) kinda mellow almost |
