Classic Punk album and arguably one of the first. Richard Hell & the VV’s were tremendously important to punk and this album proves it. Hell was making ur-punk tunes in NYC as early as 1973. This was released in ’77. Listen to “Liars Beware” for more evidence. This also has that out of control feeling that clueless record execs and Fleetwood Kack fans couldn’t figure out.
(((((1)))) One of the “hit” song (and about wankin’ – go figure), wild guitar strums and just crazy awesome vocals.
((((2)))) (FCC “had a fuckin time” but sung fast) Crazy mix of very fast punk (for the time) and off-kilter strumming/vocal delivery.
((((3)))) Straight up rock but still odd with some strutting and near-Bowie-like vocal breaks.
((((4)))) Melacholic ballad in the early rock n’ roll style. Lots of soul & melacholly.
(((5))) Eh, too weirdly new wave/Velvets/I dunno what. Not bad but just missing somethin’.
(((6))) Strange tempo & vocals, lots of random chords.
(((((7))))) Swingin’ ur-punk with timeless vocals. The point being “Fill in the” ____ generation.
((((8)))) Struttin’, juttin’ riffs that sound like the Clash took a few things from.
((((((9))))) Just great, mix of early rock n’ roll and moody, story-telling vocals.
(((10))) Off-kilter, early Bowie-ish weirdness.
((((((11)))))) Simple, direct & soulful luff song.
(((12))) Mellow ballad, slow strums and bends. Sounds like a 70’s version of an old doo-wop tune.
