Album Review

Great first solo effort by My Morning Jackset’s guitarist. Lots of influences here including The Beatles, Wilco, and a bit of MMJ. Instruments include guitar, organ, dobro, horns. Although most songs are slow or slow / mid, they are really catchy and memorable. Strong album, all songs worth a listen. No FCC’s.

*My Favorites*: 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11.

1. (1:33) Slow / Mid. Simple, breezy acoustic guitar in first half, then a beautiful, lushful gusto of guitar flourishes, very dreamy and heartfelt. INSTRUMENTAL.
2. *(3:50) Mid. A continuation of thought from the first song, but a more structured piece, with lyrics. NIce guitar parts, catchy, easy-going, backing vocals.
3. (3:09) Slow / Mid. Guitar, dobro intro with drums, country-tinged. Big sound with the bassoon and band.
4. *(4:04) Slow / Mid. Plodding beat, ethereal and dreamy with organ. Again, just a bit of a country sound with some hints of mellow Wilco.
5. *(2:43) Mid. Sparse and echoey. Beatles influences. Quick and catchy.
6. (2:32) Slow / Mid. Spacey with the organ coinciding with the lyric. Whistling solos, backing vocals.
7. *(5:18) Slow. Heavy country sound with the dobro / pedal. Hollow vocals / backing vocals. Really airy and sparse.
8. *(4:44) Slow / Mid. Hip horns, cool beat, magnetic feel. Jazzy, folky. About the ‘Different People’ in the world.
9. (4:29) Slow. Reflective lyrics set inside sentimental instrumentation.
10. *(3:14) Mid. Simple guitar and brushes on the drums. The simplist song on the album and, perhaps, the catchiest. Backing vocals.
11. *(3:37) Slow. Country, jazzy. Ethereal. Almost a gospel feel. Great song to end a set / show. Wow!
