MYRON WALDEN: Countryfied Demi Sound, 2010 JAZZ/BLUES – There’s a strong southern flavor in this musical stew. It’s a slow-tempo, down-home blend of soul jazz, blues, r&b, and gospel that might recall King Curtis, Ray Charles or Booker T., but it has a modern sensibility too. Walden’s delicious tenor sax meets electric guitar, organ and drums, all keepin’ it real. Oh yes. But I wish there were a few more uptempo numbers to balance out all the ballads. Nice! 4. 4:05 – bluesy slow-dance ballad, really sweet Sam Cooke vibe 5. 4:55 – another slow ballad: a bit sappy, but heartfelt 6. 5:41 – optimistic gospel-tinged ballad, with some bluesy talkin’ guitar work 7. 5:49 – bluesy strut from back in the alley: sneaky sax, nasty little guitar 8. 5:24 – reassuring ballad: things may have been bad, but they’re OK now 9. 5:11 – slow walk, comes up from way down low; sax tells it like it is 10. 6:51 – upbeat and bluesy, turns into a sly, funky jam 11. 3:54 – fade in: a breezy midtempo soul stomp, straight-up sound [ Fo ] 10/09/10 | ||
