This is sacred choral music from the late Renaissance; the intricate vocal counterpoint foreshadows the soon-to-come Baroque style. Flemish composer Philippe Rogier worked his entire career at the Spanish court under King Philip II.
On this record, conductor David Trendell directs the Choir of Kings College London.
Tracks 1 and 12 add a small brass consort and organ.

Shorter pieces would make a lovely sound bed for PSAs or mic breaks.

No FCC issues. Recommended (for classical programs): 6, 12, 10

Motets. 12 vocal parts plus instruments. Texts are gospel passages related to Christmas.
1. The more prayerful of the two. From Matthew, “When they saw the star.” (6:20)
12. * The more joyous of the two. From John, “The Word became flesh.” This track, plus Pavarotti doing “O Holy Night”, plus Handel’s “Ev’ry Valley” would be a killer Christmas Eve set. (7:20)

Here are the six principle prayers in the standard Latin mass. These have been tackled by every classical composer from Medieval to Modern. Rogier uses 6 vocal parts and wonderfully interweaves them. The choir's singing is absolutely gorgeous. Choose a track by its length and be happy with any. I like #6 best.
3. Kyrie. “Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy.” (4:05)
4. Gloria. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men of good will.” (7:50)
6. ** Credo. The highlight. “I believe in one God, Father almighty.” Close your eyes and imagine you’re in a cathedral. (9:52)
8. Sanctus. “Holy Lord God of hosts.” (2:58)
9. Benedictus. “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” (3:22)
11. Agnes Dei. “Lamb of God … grant us peace.” (3:54)

Motets. 6 vocal parts, no instruments. Special prayers or recitations. 10 is especially good.
2. “While organs played” A hymn to St. Cecilia. (3:19)
5. “My eyes are blinded by tears” A response sung on Good Friday. (6:51)
7. “I spoke with my tongue” Passages from two Psalms. (10:09)
10. * “I have labored with my groaning” Passage from Psalm #6. (4:42)
