Andy S Reviewed 2010-11-17 | ||
Americana; gruff pop/rock that sometimes drifts into alt-country range. Definite influence from Uncle Tupelo and early Wilco, but much more of an indie-aware mainstream rock sound throughout. Solid songwriting, good production, check it out. Start with 3, 7. FCC clean. –Andy 1 - (3:16) driving, midtempo, minor-key rock 2 - (2:45) upbeat pleading power-pop **3 - (3:45) fast and country-tinted with fantastic pop chorus *4 - (3:51) Johnny Cash country rock; different, deeper-voiced vocalist than rest of album 5 - (3:23) Spoon midtempo pop-rock; fun pick-up to end *6 - (4:10) mellow and cautiously sentimental, with great baritone electric **7 - (3:25) solid Uncle Tupelo alt-country number 8 - (2:58) fast folk-rock with a vigorous Conor Oberst vocal line *9 - (3:44) midtempo bar rock with both anthemic and contemplative touches 10 - (4:04) sentimental ballad 11 - (5:36) upbeat repetitive rock number; sudden cut to fuzzy interlude, then back 12 - (3:34) silence/rustling to start; quiet breathy minor-key waltz |
