Spacey, outsider (garage) rock by longtime KZSU favorites. Distorted vocals by a non-singer, psychedelic synths, bizarre sampling, and tribal rhythms. This sounds like a bunch of cannibals, outcasts, and delinquents taking drugs in space while parading over Kenny G’s corpse. Ape Has Killed Ape was started in 1996 and is currently a 4 piece based in LA. This definitely fits in your set. No FCCS detected. RIYL Not Not Fun, tryptamine, chimpanzees, space disco, Butthole Surfers, Wooden Shjips.
1. Insistent, pounding mid-tempo groove, vocoder distorted vox, kaleidoscopic space sounds and some sharp guitar edges. (4:25)
*2. Goofy combination of dog barking and arpeggiating space synths to open, laid-back, baked R2D2 in distorted infomercial “Ponzi schemes!” *!@#. Warbly and odd. Fuck yeah. Apparently this track also features a sample of the Pope buried in it! (6:57)
*3. Saxophone-laden track with identifiable hook. (4:45)
4. A slow, lo-fi folk trot vaunted into the Milky Way. (4:58)
*5. Scattered, laser-firing space jam with fuzz bass, drugged, languid tempo, bleeping guitar swipes, and rumbling undercurrents of buzzing. (5:17)
6. Flute, heroic guitar rock, Bardo Pond-lite, echoey guitar chords. (6:20)
7. Heaviest thing on here, 80s noodling, head-bobbing drums. Wish Gears was around for this one. (4:05)
*8. Surfy organs and guitars, ghostly pitch trilling, sax, oh god! New Halloween jam right here. (7:51)
