A Texas-style singer-songwriter; his PR blurb mentions Townes, Guy, and Jerry Jeff—he ain’t that good, but you can hear those influences. This is Talmadge’s 7th album; ZK says we have three others in deep storage. All songs written by Talmadge, except track 1. No FCC issues. 1. * By David Olney, who’s written for Emmylou, Steve Earle, others. Mid-tempo country love song. His singing is better here than on other tracks. Electric guitar. (3:27) 2. Mid-tempo, folky. About a street violinist in Germany. Features a pretty fiddle. (3:29) 3. * Mid-tempo title track. Kinda-sorta Guy Clark-ish. Spoken/sung story telling. (3:38) 4. Reminiscence in fast waltz time of great first kiss. Spectacularly schmaltzy. (2:42) 5. Slow, sad, down n out. Kids have moved away. Life is hard. Yuck. (5:02) 6. * Slow, folky lament to a girl who left. Old-time dobro, mandolin, backing vox. (2:50) 7. * Country ballad. Memories of a teenage summer romance. Nice pedal steel. (3:56) 8. Yet another girl and a long ago summer. Mid-tempo this time. (4:11) 9. More slow, sad storytelling. Something bad happened years ago. Getting tedious. (3:41) 10. Mid-tempo love song. Sort of a campfire-song feel. Nice mandolin and harp. (2:50) 11. Slow love song, backed by violins. (3:31) 12. * Finally something happy. When you’ve just fallen in love. Nice fiddle & dobro. (3:11) 13. “Bonus (sic) track” Schmaltzy Christmas waltz. The pedal steel is nice though. (4:26) |
