LYNNE ARRIALE: Convergence Motéma, 2011 MODERN JAZZ – As a highly melodic, straightahead player with eclectic tastes, pianist Arriale makes engaging jazz that fits comfortably within the mainstream while subtly pulling it in new directions. She also has a special affinity for pop songs, as seen on five tracks here. It’s a bit hit-and-miss, but well presented, with solid support from her strong, sympathetic quartet.
